About the tour
Apr. 15: Arrive in Quito and transfer to hotel. Dinner and then rest for the night.
Apr. 16: After breakfast we leave Quito and drive towards San Pablo Lake. On our way we will stop at Calderón, which is a small town outside Quito where the famous “mazapan dolls” are manufactured. We will admire the beautiful views of the Andes, snow caped mountains with the indigenous working and harvesting their land. We will visit the Peguche village where typical Andes music instruments are manufactured.
Apr. 17: After breakfast we will visit Otavalo, the most famous indigenous market. We will experience a mix of exotic colors, sounds and smells. Hundreds of local artists offer their products in this market. Lunch in Otavalo and then we will head towards Ibarra city, where we will go around its colonial streets, visiting a couple of colonial churches, and finally end the tour at the local “plaza” park, where we will have typical ice cream from this region.
Apr. 18: We will relax in the morning and after lunch visit the town of Cotacachi which is the most famous town in Ecuador for leather products made by local indigenous people.
Apr. 19: After breakfast we leave Lake San Pablo and drive to the Amazon. On our way we will cross two mountain chains and will drive though seven different climate floors. Depending on weather we will see some volcanoes and will try food specialties on the way. We will have several stops which include a visit to an Environmental Communication Centre at the entrance to the Amazon Region.
Apr. 20: Today we will enter into secondary rain forest for a guided tour. After lunch we will visit an animal rescue center with local animals that have been recovered from illegal animal trade. If we are lucky maybe we will be able to take a picture of a monkey jumping around.
Apr. 21: In the morning we will travel to the Anzu river, where we will take a accessible raft in a very calm river . We will start our adventure of going down the river admiring the Amazon nature on each side of the river. During the trip we can stop at several points of interest to take pictures and relax in the river.
Apr. 22: Today we will visit a typical indigenous community called Rukullacta. There we will learn about the way the indigenous from this area keep their traditions and at the same time have adapted to 21st century costumes. We will also see some typical dances performed by an indigenous group. After lunch we will visit the town of Archidona, the oldest town in the Amazon.
Apr. 23: We will take the morning to relax at the Amazon lodge before driving back to Quito. In the evening we will have a typical famous ballet group performed a private show for us. The ballet Jachigua is famous internationally. We will be fascinated by its great performance, and it will be only for the group.
Apr. 24: After breakfast we will visit to Quito’s Colonial Center, declared a World Culture Heritage by UNESCO. Visit the churches and squares and get to know their history and most interesting facts. After lunch we will visit the sky lift of Quito, where we will reach an altitude of 4100 meters above sea level….If it is clear we will admire all the volcanoes around Quito, and the Andes mountains.
Apr. 25: We will visit the Middle of the Word Monument where we can be admire the monument, take some pictures and finally visit the Intiñam Museum where we will witness some experiments that prove we are indeed in the middle of the world. Then we will transfer to the airport for our return flight home.
