The “land of the rising sun” is where ancient culture meets modern technology. We had the unique and awe-inspiring opportunity to experience the beauty and splendor of ancient shrines, temples, and traditions during the spectacular cherry blossom period.
Our 9-day to Japan began upon our arrival in Tokyo. After settling in to the accessible hotel in Tokyo, we enjoyed a wonderful welcome dinner and the opportunity for everyone to get to know each other.
Then it was off for a good night’s rest so that we could begin exploring the exciting city of Tokyo. Our tour began with a city view of Tokyo from atop the Tokyo government center’s viewing floor, from which we could enjoy the skyline of Tokyo and the magical cherry blossoms covering the city below us.
After our view of Tokyo we toured a park to enjoy the blossoms with the local Japanese people and then we went to the famous Akihabara electronic district for lunch and time to explore the newest items in modern technology. After lunch we enjoyed a panoramic drive around Tokyo to see some of the major buildings and areas of the city.
Our next day in Tokyo began with time visiting the Meiji Shrine. This shrine is the most important in Tokyo and houses the remains of Emperor Meiji and his wife Empress Shoken. Emperor Meiji was important in Japanese history as uniting modern day Japan. We were lucky to see a traditional Japanese marriage ceremony while we were visiting the temple.
After touring the temple we took a riverboat cruise to view the cherry blossoms and city of Tokyo.
On day four, we departed Tokyo for loving drive towards Mount Fuji and the Japan Lake district. We explored a traditional Japanese Village, tried on traditional costumes and learned about traditional Japanese crafts, food and agriculture.
After our time at the village we arrived at our beautiful lakeside hotel to relax, take in the hot springs baths and enjoy tea while viewing the incredible landscape. That evening our group was treated to a multi-course traditional Japanese dinner of which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage cuisine.
The following morning we explored the area around Mount Fuji and then jumped on the bullet train to Kyoto. The group was awed by the speed and comfort of the famous high-speed Japanese train. Upon our arrival at our Kyoto hotel, we were treated to a private Maiko show dinner. After her performance the group had the opportunity to visit the performer and ask her questions about her traditional art form and life style.
Our full-day tour of Kyoto began with a stop at the Golden Temple. This temple is the glimmering legacy of Medieval Japan. The three-story temple is totally covered in a gold leaf and topped by a bronze phoenix. The reflection of this temple in the calm Koi pond which surrounds it is truly a vision to behold.
We then proceeded to the Japanese textile museum for time shop a see the beautiful Kimono fashion show. We then to the temple of 1,001 statues.
On day seven of our tour we departed Kyoto for a visit to the Big Buddha caste in Nara. This temple is the largest wooden structure in the world and is surround by a park and deer garden. The grounds also featured amazing cherry blossoms and sculptures.
From Nara we proceeded Osaka and toured the Osaka castle famous for its night-time cherry blossom illumination festival.
On our last day in Osaka, we spend the day touring the various districts for this exciting city. We sampled the local food, shopped and enjoyed learning about the local customs and activities.
